Struggle
What we affirm:

  • Struggle is a normal, God-given part of growth in everyone’s life
  • A life of transparency that is not afraid to reveal our inner struggles
  • A community of grace that embraces fellow-strugglers

Therefore I commit to embracing struggle as a path to maturity by:

  • Inviting others into my struggle rather than hiding it
  • Practicing grace in my relationships - especially in the midst of disagreement

Meaning
What we affirm:

  • Wholeness of life is found in following Jesus
  • My story is intimately tied to God’s greater story
  • Scripture provides for us a worldview that reveals how God is at work in history and today.
  • Jesus’ life and teaching revealed to humanity how God intended life to be.

Therefore I commit to the pursuit of Christ as my significance and meaning in life and dying to the things that attempt to take His place by:

  • Affirming the story of God as we understand it through Scripture in the Pathways community
  • Telling my story as authentication of God’s truth and beauty
  • Living in the way of Jesus, trusting that it is the way God intended for us to live

Redemption
What we affirm:

  • God’s desire and mission to bring restoration to His creation
  • All of mankind has sinned and broken relationship with our Creator
  • Jesus’ death as a sacrifice for our sin to restore our relationship with God
  • Following Jesus leads to a desire to join God in His redemptive heart for the world

Therefore I commit to live a life of redemptive influence in the world by:

  • Partnering with God in the work of restoring humanity and creation to Himself
  • Inviting others to restore their broken relationship with God
  • Embracing issues of rebirth, justice and renewal

Sacrifice
What we affirm:

  • God’s example of sacrificial and unconditional love for His rebellious creation
  • God has gifted us with time, talents and resources
  • Worship is offering ourselves as a living sacrifice to God

Therefore I commit to live sacrificially, following the pattern of Jesus, by:

  • Striving to follow God’s example of unconditional love toward others
  • Offering the gifts God has entrusted to me as I partner with Him in His redemptive work
  • Continually growing in the pursuit of a life of sacrificial worship
  • Giving myself to the Pathways community as we corporately develop a life of sacrificial worship

Community
What we affirm:

  • Following Jesus is not a path that is intended by God to be lived outside of the context of community
  • God’s love is seen by the world as we act it out with “one another”
  • God himself exists in the form of three in one showing his relational nature

Therefore I commit to holding the unity of our community as a higher value than the pursuit of my own ideas/agenda by:

  • Partnering with the leadership of Pathways Church as we pursue God’s heart and mission
  • Offering myself to others and graciously receiving what they offer me
  • Meeting regularly with others who are on the same path as I am - even when it is uncomfortable and I am challenged or struggling
